Token cost per task in Hatchlog
Hatchlog can show what each task cost in Claude Code tokens, and what that would cost at public API prices. It is measured for Claude Code only, it stores numbers only, and it is off until you turn it on. Cursor and Codex are not measured.
What's measured, and for which agents
Token cost is measured for Claude Code only. Cursor and Codex can read and update your board, but Hatchlog does not measure their token cost. It stays blank for their work.
Hatchlog stores numbers only — token counts and the estimated cost. It never reads your prompts or your code. The whole feature is off until you turn it on.
The Tokens block on a task
Open any task and you'll see a Tokens block. It shows the tokens Claude Code spent on that task and the API-equivalent cost. This is the per-feature number: what this one piece of work cost to build.
The Overview
The Overview rolls the same numbers up. You can see the most expensive tasks over a date range, the cost per plan, and the cost for the whole project. It answers "where did the tokens go" without opening each card.
Unattributed and Untracked
Two labels explain the gaps.
- Unattributed — tokens Claude Code spent that couldn't be tied to a single task, such as general back-and-forth. They count toward the project total, not one card.
- Untracked — usage from an agent Hatchlog doesn't measure, or from before you turned tracking on. It isn't counted.
API-equivalent cost
The dollar figure is the API-equivalent cost: what those tokens would cost at the model's public API prices. It's a guide, not a bill. If you're on a flat plan, your real cost may be lower.
Turn it on or off
Token tracking is off by default. Turn it on in Settings → Token cost, and turn it off there any time. When it's off, Hatchlog measures nothing and the Tokens blocks stay empty.
Common questions
Which agents does Hatchlog measure?
Claude Code only. Cursor and Codex can use your board, but their token cost is not measured.
Does Hatchlog see my prompts or code?
No. It reads usage figures that Claude Code keeps on your Mac, only if you turn it on, and stores numbers only.
Is the dollar figure a real bill?
No. It is what that many tokens would cost at public API prices, as a guide. Your own plan may differ.
